Samasati is a peaceful sanctuary in Costa Rica’s lush Caribbean rainforest. Established in 1997, it is known for yoga, meditation, and holistic wellness. Guests practice daily yoga in studios surrounded by the jungle.

The retreat offers unique experiences like forest bathing, a Japanese practice that connects guests to the healing energy of the rainforest. The 250-acre property is perfect for reducing stress and boosting mental health.

Samasati also provides restorative massages and treatments using natural ingredients like coconut oil, aloe vera, and cacao. Guests can enjoy adventure activities such as hiking, horseback riding, and zip-lining.

While secluded, Samasati is just 20 minutes from Puerto Viejo, a vibrant town with beautiful beaches, local culture, and lively nightlife. This makes it easy to combine relaxation with adventure.

The most perfect place, from the beautiful views to the caring staff and convenient location. I went as a solo traveler and unfortunately fell very ill starting my first day there but the staff was absolutely amazing in improving this unfortunate situation. Stephanie provided thoughtful and enlightening yoga sessions, and all staff went above and beyond to help me get well. Samasati has absolutely beautiful grounds and many amenities. The cabins are spacious and open. It is more like a glamping experience, however that just makes the experience of staying in the rainforest more authentic. The food is well made and nutritious. It is located in a secluded area of the forest, yet so close to many vibrant towns, beaches, and other things. The perfect place to stay in Costa Rica, hands down. My time here will always be memorable and special, even though I could not physically participate as I intended to.

We originally visited back in 2016 - I was going through my pictures and found these gems. I still tell people to this day how amazing this trip was. The resort property is incredible. With our cosy wooden casita nestled into the tropical rainforest hillside, the view in the morning was spectacular. Waking up to the howler monkey’s on the roof, all the sounds of all the other beasties was magical (a little startling, but magical). Add the wellness side of things with daily yoga classes, massages and a bunch of options to center yourself, this is the perfect place to disconnect from technology for a while and just reset.

My second time here and it was even more memorable than the first. Everyone that works here is amazing and I can’t say enough about the location. We spent about 9 days at Samasati and we never ate out ( the food was so good on site) and every time we went out I was looking forward to coming back up the mountain. Highlights included walking around the ground and the trails, the food - including the fresh juices and dessert, the yoga sessions led by Stephanie, and the animals you see everyday (we saw a new one every single day). I already am missing Samasati and can’t wait to go back!!

Oh my goodness, what a magical place. I am a city girl and not particularly well versed in living in the wilderness, but I've never felt more safe and calm and taken care of than during my stay at Samasati. Every morning I woke to the sounds of birds and monkeys and the most incredible view of the sunrise. I started most days with yoga in a room surrounded by rainforest life and sounds. All the buildings are screened in, so you always feel like you're outside but without the bugs (mostly). There are 3 different hiking trails you can get to, and a pool and a hot tub to come back to afterwards with incredible mountaintop views. I also spent one day in Puerto Viejo, the beachtown nearby, which they provided free transport to. We were fed three fabulous meals each day which I was very happy with - and my husband is a chef, so this is coming from someone who's rather spoiled in this regard. I've never wanted to not leave a place so badly. The rainforest is a truly healing place, and Samasati knows how to set you up so that you can slow down and take it all in.

It felt like I was in Florida. I wanted to be in Costa Rica, not the USA. I should have inquired about where the owners were from first.
