Want to escape the day-tour crowds at Laguna 69 and experience the real magic of the Cordillera Blanca without a long 4-10 day trek?

The 2-day trek to Pisco Base Camp and Laguna 69 offers a more immersive, peaceful way to explore one of Peru’s most iconic alpine lakes along with jaw-dropping glacier views and a night under the stars in a dark sky zone at high altitude.

This trek takes you deeper than the typical day hike to Laguna 69. You’ll follow the scenic Llanganuco Valley, camp beneath towering peaks like Nevado Pisco, Chacraraju, and Huascarán, and summit one of the most beautiful day hikes in the Andes with a lot fewer people around at sunrise.

This is a perfect option for photographers, acclimatizing trekkers, or travellers looking for a short but epic overnight experience. You’ll camp above 4,600 meters, wake up surrounded by snow and stillness, and hike early to beat the crowds to Laguna 69.

2-Day Laguna 69 Trek Itinerary:

Laguna 69 Colors

Day 1: Huaraz → Cebollapampa → Pisco Base Camp

Drive early from Huaraz through the Llanganuco Lakes and up to Cebollapampa (3,900 m). From there, hike for 3–4 hours through alpine meadows and rocky switchbacks to reach Pisco Base Camp (4,650 m).

Along the hike, you will see stunning views of Pisco, Yanapaccha, and Huascarán towering above. You will camp overnight with a delicious backcountry dinner and a massive glacier as your backdrop.

Day 2: Base Camp → Laguna 69 → Cebollapampa → Huaraz

You will start early to ascend the trail to Laguna 69 (4,600 m), which is a high-altitude jewel of icy blue water, set beneath the cliffs of Chacraraju.

You’ll arrive before the crowds that hike from Huaraz in the morning. After enjoying the views and snacks at the lake, descend back to Cebollapampa and drive back to Huaraz by late afternoon.

It's a gorgeous, breath taking colorful lake in the Andes mountains of Ancash, Perú. You must book a tour with a local agency in Huaraz and they'll provide transportation and guidance for 50 soles. You must pay another 30 for the entrance fee. If you plan to go to other places of the national park, you should buy the 3 day pass for 60. The hike can take from 2-3 hours on the way up and 1 to 2 hours coming back. Try to get used to the height before going here because you'll get sick otherwise. Also, take snacks and lunch with you since there are no restaurants around. There are more lakes on the way so have your camera ready!!

Did it in mid March 2025. Collectivo rides were organized by a tour company through my hostel (Alpes Huaraz). 3 hours drive with breakfast stop. Hike up support challenging due to altitude. Rainy, cold, muddy. Check out the AllTrails app with it's altitude profile to get a clearer idea. Well worth it.

One of the best things I've seen on my trip around south America. I had been told good things about laguna 69 and I was not disappointed. The scenery was stunning and I was amazed at how quite and tranquil it was. I'd definitely recommend coming here as it's such an stunning bit of nature!

LAGUNA 69 has the most amazing views. Your trek to this lake will give your eyes the beauty of creeks, rivers, cascades, waterfalls and fauna of the area. Get ready to trek 5.1 miles to reach it, but the journey is so worth it. Enjoy the cool breeze and the sun rays of the day! 🇵🇪 ☀️ 🏔 💕 🗻 🌄
