4 months agoCocoVivo: Great Views, but Some Areas for Improvement The room at CocoVivo was spectacular—rustic, but charming, as expected in a remote island setting. However, there are a few areas that could be improved, even considering its remote location. First, more attention to cleaning the gardens would be beneficial, and the restaurant area could use a fresh coat of paint. Another issue was the need for regular fumigation to control the bothersome sand flies, which were quite annoying. What truly impressed me were the coral reefs around the hotel, which you can enjoy right from the pier. They also offer the option to rent a transparent kayak for $15, which is a great experience. They provide a brochure about marine life and snorkeling tips, but I would have liked more concrete tours or activities focused on exploring the corals. The food, while acceptable, was a bit bland and didn’t justify the price. I understand that sourcing ingredients on a remote island can be difficult, but it still didn’t match the cost. During my stay, there were frequent power outages, and the internet was almost unusable, which was another downside. In summary, CocoVivo has an amazing location and beautiful coral reefs, but there are some areas that need attention to provide a more complete and enjoyable experience.

a year agoOne of the most beautiful and memorable stays of a life full of travel. Remote and lush, water, sky, and jungle. Simple, comfortable, and private cabina over the water with our own private dock. Melissa and Luciano were charming and welcoming hosts and prepared killer meals too good to be true in such a far away locale. The reef was healthy and the bioluminesce sparkling. Paradise.

a year agoWe are just leaving Cocovivo after 4 fantastic days and nights. Do not hesitate: this is paradise. Book now. Drop dead gorgeous reef. Plentiful wildlife. Fabulous food. Melissa, Luciano and Leo create a wonderful atmosphere. We wouldn’t change a thing. So so relaxed and happy. Here are a few more details: For starters, the reef is spectacular and runs for miles along the island. You don’t need a boat to access. Anytime you want, you can swim a few strokes from the dock and there it is Have never seen a reef quite this healthy. And they take every precaution to make sure it stays that way. Reef safe everything. Do try a night snorkel, both for the fun of swimming in the bioluminescence and for the different sea life. There is also ample wildlife, especially sloths and howler monkeys. They are all over the area among the cabins, and you can see even more on the “sloth trail”, a short loop trail that takes 30-40 minutes to complete. We did the loop once or twice a day and never failed to see something interesting. Then there are Melissa and Luciano, who manage the place, prepare the meals and otherwise create a warm and friendly atmosphere. The food is stunningly good, healthy and quite beautiful. Really like a remote 5 star restaurant. Drinks are creative and tasty too. The only “excursion” we took was the jungle hike led by Leo. He was a great guide to the area. But there was so much we could do on our own that we just didn’t feel much need to do more. Finally, the other guests were quite fun as well—from all over the world. We enjoyed both our private time as a family and the joint time with all of them. No-see-ums were the only annoyance. But in our case, they were simply a mild annoyance. We slathered on the repellent (reef safe, of course) and wore long sleeves and long pants in the mornings and evenings if there wasn’t a breeze.

a year agoWe had 3 glorious days at Cocovivo for a girls trip! It was truly magical! From the wild animals, to the bioluminescence night swims, to the beach excursion, to the snorkeling and jumping off the reef center diving board, everything was just top notch! The food and drinks we will be talking about for years to come, so so good. And the dogs, they add so much fun, they’ll walk you back to your cabin, and lead you on a hike. We were truly obsessed! Melisa and Luciano were the best, most attentive hosts. And I am counting the days we’ll be able to go back!
